"All children are gifted – some just open their presents earlier than others"

Extracts from an Article written by Jenni McDonald, recipient of a National NEiTA award for teaching excellence (2007).

…there are six thinking functions that we all share. ONLY SIX!
By using animals we give children a language so they can identify and share their gifts

Here are two ways we process information:

WOMBAT – slowly, methodically and step by step. These are the children who like to know what’s happening next and like to complete tasks before moving on to their next activity.

JAGUAR – quickly and wanting to do our best. These children are good at winning games and taking things in quickly.

Here are two ways we use our creativity:

RABBITS – these children enjoy laughing and having fun. These are the children who need to be moving whilst you’re talking, and can’t sit still for too long as they want to be out there discovering new things.

EAGLES – need the space to vision, imagine and project into the future. These children may look out the window when asked a question as they need the time to think it through before answering. These children also ask the ‘hard questions’ in our class – “What will happen when all of the world’s oil runs out?”

Here are two ways of receiving data:

OWLS – like to learn through remembering lots of things, being quiet and watching. These children may not be the first to jump in to a new activity as they wish to know how it all works first before having a go. They love to read.

TURTLES – need connection in order to learn. They will often try to imagine how other children are feeling and be the first there if someone is hurt or in distress. They are the most committed gardeners and animal carers in our group.

…All children are gifted. Some just open their presents earlier than others. It is my commitment to ensure that we as teachers and parents celebrate and enhance those gifts together…

We all want the best for our children

We want them to understand their strengths and to realise their full potential.  These simple and colourful, yet powerful books will help your child or student to understand their unique personality and celebrate diversity.

As a parent I have faced the challenge of finding practical tools which my children can understand and use as a language to know themselves and their strengths better.  To meet this need I have written the PIC Kidz series using the NeuroPower system of personality, which in my opinion offers the most practical explanation of human potential and why we live and act as we do.

I have seen how incredible these powerful books and activities can be to assist children, parents and teachers in creating a language for understanding their own strengths and potential. We hope you find them as equally rewarding.

So much more than just story books!

PIC Kidz provide the special ingredients that help parents and educators understand different behaviours in each and every child. We offer practical tools to identify and develop each child’s strengths and realise their full potential.

PIC Kidz tools include books, activities and consultations.

  • Do you want to help your child get ahead in life?
  • Do they deserve to understand their strengths and capabilities?
  • Do they need a language to identify and share these strengths?
  • Would you like them to appreciate diversity in people?
  • Would you like them to have the ability to interact more effectively with others?

Then these powerful books and activities are for you!

What is the PIC in PIC Kidz books?

The three letters (PIC) are taken from Peter Burow’s NeuroPower™ system of human personality.  NeuroPower™ identifies three principal brain functions common to all people:

1: Processing;

2: Information gathering;

3: Creativity.

We have taken this foundational PIC concept of brain function and used it as the basis to write the books of the PIC Kidz series.

In NeuroPower™ the PIC foundational functions each have two components.  They are:

·            P has P1 (logic) and P2 (passion);

·            I has I1 (data) and I2 (empathy);

·            C has C1 (spontaneity) and C2 (vision).

Thereby creating six components which are called “Intelligence Centres” and form the building blocks of personality.

Each book in the PIC Kidz Series (ideal age birth to 9 years) is based on one of the Intelligence Centres. In turn each story is based on a character that depicts the Intelligence Centre and provides a language the children can identify, understand and use. The PIC Kidz activities have been designed to explore different aspects of the Intelligence Centres.

Through understanding these different Intelligence Centres we can:

               Create a language to identify behaviour;

               Develop strengths and capabilities;

               Understand and appreciate diversity.

The books are as follows:

            P1 is ‘Walter the Wombat’;

            P2 is ‘Jessie the Jaguar’;

            I1 is ‘Simmo the Monkey’;

            I2 is ‘Kassie the Turtle’;

            C1 is ‘Reggie the Rabbit’;

            C2 is ‘Griff the Eagle’.

PIC Kidz books are based on NeuroPower™ by Peter Burow and used with his permission and blessing.

NeuroPower™ also aligns with the personality system used for thousands of years by the Maya Lenca People of El Salvador.  The system has been used on a day to day basis with children and adults alike.  Referenced with permission of Maya Lenca Royal Family.

About Tracy Benson:  Managing Director / Author

Tracy with her husband, Simon and two young children are based in Cairns, Australia and live life to its fullest.

Tracy has been involved in training roles for most of her working career and currently operates a successful training and coaching business (www.bensonstraining.com.au) with some of Australia’s leading corporations.

The cornerstone of her success has been built on the foundation of an in-depth knowledge of human behaviour and the ability to translate this clearly into practical application.

Being a mother of two young children Tracy feels it is vitally important for children to have their own tools to express their individuality, creativity and communicate more effectively with others. This will ultimately help the development of their personal and social skills and the realisation of their individual potential.

Her practical approach to human behaviour, along with her extensive knowledge of NeuroPower and her desire to empower the children, parents and educators with their own tools has resulted in the development of these books, activities and consultation services.
